Friday 5 - Volunteering at the 5k

More than 300 volunteers are needed each season to ensure the Girls on the Run 5k is a safe and fun event. Parents, teachers, coaches, high school students, college students, and corporate groups all come together to support our girls on the run as they complete a 5k and their season. Here are five things that make volunteering at the 5k so amazing!

It is a truly inspiring day! Nothing is cooler than watching thousands of girls accomplish a HUGE goal and complete their 10-week program journey. Smiling, sweaty faces, giant hugs and high fives from friends and family, the combination of relief and exhilaration that shows as they realize "I did it!!" when they cross that finish line and the impossible becomes possible.

There are a lot of options when choosing to volunteer for the GOTR 5k. Help with packet pickup getting runners what they need for race day. Watch the sun rise while setting up School Village, Race Village or Sponsor Spot. Refresh and cheer the runners at the water station or finish line!  Many days and times to accomodate the early bird and the late sleeper.

Volunteer as part of a group, team, or company!  It's a great team building and bonding experience that supports a great program. We give you all of the information and supplies to make it your day almost as much fun as the girls!

We are not like other 5ks.  We have several unique volunteer roles such as "Happy Hair" and "Superstar Station" that create an energetic and colorful environment.

Each role is needed in order to create an experience unlike any other for our girls on the run in what is potentially their first 5k race. Every person encouraging her to meet her goals on this day makes a lasting impression by telling her that SHE CAN DO IT!
