Hey Girls on the Run!

I am so excited to meet you all and be even a small part of your journey this fall!

Some of you might have some experience running and feel confident about the race and the training you will do leading up to our 5k. That’s awesome! Others may be totally new to the sport of running and might be feeling a little nervous about the next month of training and what it will be like to participate in a race. Either way, we are going to come together as a team and help support each other in getting to that finish line! The best part about Girls on the Run is that we are girls- plural! We are going to run together as a team and help each other along the way.

I feel so grateful to have been part of some amazing teams during my running career. I’ve met my best friends through the sport of running. I might be biased, but I think runners are some of the best, most compassionate, and hardest working people on the planet! We are tough, we are dedicated, we are resilient, and we are kind. When I am in a race, my competitors and I do our very best and compete hard when the gun goes off because we all want to finish high and get the most out of ourselves. But, when we cross the line, we always turn around to hug or high five the other women in the race because we have a mutual respect for one another and we recognize the hard work that everyone puts in to get to that finish line.

No matter what your experience level is, during this next month I want you girls to think about not only how you can push yourself and test your own limits, but also how you can be a good teammate and support and encourage the other girls in your group. And, whenever you want to give up and give in, remember that you are part of a team and your team is counting on you to be tough. Let the other girls motivate and inspire you to be stronger, go further, and go faster! And, when you cross that finish line, be sure to look around you and give out some hugs and high fives to your teammates and recognize their amazing efforts as well.

I am so looking forward to November 18th! I will see you all in St. Louis, but until then, happy training!

With love,

Colleen Quigley
