Pam Anderson

When Pam first heard of Girls on the Run she knew it was something her granddaughter and her granddaughter’s classmates would benefit from so Pam took action. Pam started the GOTR program at Douglas Elementary in Belleville, IL this past spring. She is very close with her family and is also very involved in her community, whether it be church activities or basketball games. It has been such a pleasure to get to know a kind, outgoing, connected and committed individual.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have been married for 29 years to my husband, Sedric. We have two children and four grandchildren. I work for Belleville Area Special Services Cooperative in the Autism Program. I am very involved in my church; I sing in the choir, I am the youth coordinator, I am involved in the women’s group, and I am the event coordinator there. I love to stay active by riding bikes with my grandkids and I am also a member of GirlTrek.

How did you get involved with Girls on the Run St. Louis?
I had heard many positive things about the program. So I called the GOTR-STL office to find out more information and how to get the program started at my granddaughter’s school. I ended up getting the program started at Douglas Elementary and I had the pleasure of coaching my granddaughter’s team.

What is the most rewarding thing about volunteering with GOTR-STL?
Watching the girls learn and grow throughout the season. The smiles on the girls’ faces and seeing how they truly feel more confident in themselves.

How has GOTR-STL impacted your life?
GOTR has inspired me in so many ways I never would have imagined. I felt empowered knowing that I was positively impacting the lives of not only my granddaughter but also all of the girls on my team.

What is your favorite memory from your volunteer experience?
So far my favorite memory was when one girl told me how much she loves coming to GOTR practice and she wishes it would never end. I am sure there will be many more favorite memories to come!

Why would you recommend that others get involved with GOTR-STL?
It is empowering!! As a participant, coach, or family member of the program GOTR has a positive impact on everyone.

What are your hopes for the future of GOTR-STL as an organization?
I hope that the program continues to grow and every girl has the opportunity to experience this life-changing program.
