Board of Directors Member
My name is Emily Wotka Rothschild and I have 2 amazing daughters, Hannah (14) and Lilly (10). I am a manager at Athleta in St. Louis.
Why did you choose to volunteer/get involved with GOTR-STL?
My love of GOTR began 6 years ago when my oldest trained for her first 5K. I fell in love with the program then and now my youngest has become a part of the program. She started running GOTR 5ks in 1st grade and hasn’t stopped. It was a natural choice for me to volunteer and I am even more excited that Athleta is a national partner. My team at work shares my passion and loves to volunteer at all GOTR events.
What is the most rewarding thing about Girls on the Run?
I love to see girls learn that there isn’t anything they can’t do if they set their minds to it.
How has GOTR-STL impacted your life?
I have met amazing girls that inspire me every day, I have met incredible coaches, teachers and volunteers that motivate me every day. I use the GOTR lessons every day!
Watching Hannah sprint ahead of me to finish her 1st 5K – it made me cry.
Watching Lilly run past me in every race with a huge smile on her face.
Why would you recommend others get involved with Girls on the Run?
The girls are so inspiring and the message that is delivered is incredible. It doesn’t matter if you have girls or boys, kids or no kids, grown children or kids at home, you will find something that resonates with you.
What are your hopes for the future of Girls on the Run as an organization?
I hope that we continue to grow and reach more girls every season. I hope that we can further develop our Girls on Track program. I hope that we are able to reach out and include schools and girls that may not normally have access to the program.
