Mary Zuccarello: An Alumna On the Run
Name: Mary Zuccarello
Grade: A high school senior
Current Focus: Applying for college!
Mary Zuccarello is currently a high school senior at MICDS, whose cross country team just won the Metro League cross country championships! With the often busy schedule of a high school senior, Mary finds time between classes and applying for college to run on her school’s cross country team. At practice and with her team, Mary finds solace, calm and the support she needs to get through a busy time in school.
Mary is a Forsyth School Girls on the Run alumna, who continues to live and breathe the mission and values of Girls on the Run, as she encourages others to do the same. Mary’s mother was a coach of the Forsyth team, and while Mary enjoyed the curriculum and friends she made through Girls on the Run, she is even more positive about the way it has helped shape her life to this day. Not only has she been inspired to run, to set goals and meet them, but she values friendship and teamwork above much else. Mary is inspired by her teammates, challenged and humbled.
As Mary makes the transition to college next year, she is confident that she will be able to take the values she learned through Girls on the Run with her. She hopes to continue running, explore her new campus and home by running through the area and find a new team of supportive friends.
Favorite running buddies:
Growing up, Mary had freedom to run when she visited new cities, countries and parts of St. Louis, something that not many young children are fortunate enough to have. With her parents are some of her closest running buddies, even as a young girl, Mary and her parents made sure to take time to explore a city by going on a run, sometimes along the lakeshore of Chicago, or even through the hilly towns in Spain. In fact, Mary and mother just completed another run together, the Girls on the Run St. Louis 5K on November 15, 2014. And it just so happens, Mary won 2nd place in her age group, as did her mother Callaway Zuccarello! Congrats to both of you!
Mary is truly empowered for a lifetime of healthy living.
