How did you find out about Girls on the Run St. Louis?

I found out about Girls on the Run St. Louis by chance when I was looking for a 5k run in St. Louis in response to a request from one of the Au Pairs in my cluster. I was looking for a way to support a great cause and get the Au Pairs and host families involved in our local community.

When I came across GOTR-STL online I was immediately impressed with their mission, the program they administer and their active role in shaping girls to become well-rounded young women. In this day and age, when girls are bombarded with various messages from the media, a program such as GOTR can make a lasting impact. With my background in social work I was glad to see that the program actually produces positive measurable outcomes.

Why do you volunteer?

The reason I decided to volunteer with Girls on the Run was because I consider the program very interesting and important in our community. Time is a resource I have an abundance of and I would like to put it to good use. I enjoy working behind the scenes, making sure everything can run smoothly and I am passionate about pretty much any office-related activities. Even day-to-day tasks need to get done and I am happy to help.

The GOTR-STL staff welcomed me with open arms and made me feel very comfortable and appreciated. Through volunteering at the office and at the coaches’ training I have witnessed firsthand the dedication of the staff, as well as the positive, upbeat and inspiring environment they create. Every time I meet these women it is like a breath of fresh air.

Do you have any personal athletic goals on the horizon?

Since I started volunteering with GOTR-STL I have been inspired to become more physically active and even though I have never really considered myself a runner, I am determined to participate in my first 5k with Girls on the Run St. Louis.
