Volunteer Spotlight

Wolfpack 5k VolunteersI first met Joe Shea when I volunteered through a mutual friend as a driver for a relay they were running together. I learned a few things about him during our 30 hours in a van together. Joe is a kind, thoughtful and also hilarious human. He is enthusiastic about life in general and when he lands on a topic he loves, his passion is contagious.

As a runner, one of the things that he encourages is giving back to the running community through volunteering. When Joe participates in a race, he sees the volunteers supporting him and his appreciation inspires him to volunteer to support other runners.

Keep an eye out for Joe's smiling face at 5:00 AM at the Girls on the Run 5k! He jumps right in setting up our "school village" and the starting line so that everything is ready when our girls arrive. Later, you might see him out on the course running with one of the girls. Joe is a dentist and has also donated tubes of toothpaste for our gossip lesson for the past few seasons. We are so grateful that Joe volunteers his time and talents for Girls on the Run!
