Cate Medeiros

Cate Medeiros, Program Coordinator, joined Girls on the Run St Louis in January 2015 when she started her graduate school practicum with the organization. Cate coached Girls on the Run at Johnson-Wabash Elementary in the Spring 2015 season and fell in love with the program. After the completion of her practicum, Cate continued to stay involved with the program going on site visits and helping at the 5k in the Fall 2015 season. In January 2016 Cate started as a part-time Program Coordinator at Girls on the Run St. Louis and loves being back in the office. Cate is currently attending graduate school for her Masters in Public Health and Social Work at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating in May 2017. With a strong passion for the health and well-being of children and adolescents, Cate finds Girls on the Run to be crucial in making a difference in the lives and health of girls.

Cate has a BA in Political Science and History from The George Washington University and has noticed she seems to only attend schools named after our first president. Cate runs a marathon every year and loves running in Forest Park and talking training with her wonderful co-workers at Girls on the Run St. Louis. Cate’s love of running started when she took a chance and joined her high school cross country team her freshman year. If it weren’t for her coach, Tom Hart and his incredible encouragement and way of making running fun and worth sticking with, she would not be the athlete she is today. She hopes to spread a little “Hart” in the lives of girls and help them find their true potential.

What’s your favorite GOTR moment?
Oh boy, where do I even begin? I think one of my all-time favorite moments was running the Spring 2015 5k with girls from the Johnson-Wabash team I coached at. When we crossed the finish line and the girls turned to me and said “Coach Cate, we did it!” I had to do everything in my power not to start crying. To me, running is beautiful, but when girls exceed their expectations and conquer their goals in any arena, well that’s just what it’s all about.
