My name is Lucy, GOTR alum and Junior Coach at Flynn Park Elementary School. I am writing this post to get you fired up about the Girls on the Run 5k! When you first get to the race early in the morning you can hear the music and the people from blocks away. When you walk up you see dancing and singing and a whole lot of fun! At your school’s station, the coaches have colored hair spray that makes your hair wacky and colorful, there is also a place where you can get face paint. It’s really exciting when the race starts! When you finally get out on the course and you look out in front of you and see a rainbow of colored t-shirts!

I was running the 5ks even before I was in GOTR and I still like to run them even though I’m a junior coach. Running the 5k isn’t just about the running. It’s also about being active and doing something hard. And when you get to the finish line it’s amazing. You’ve done it. You’ve run a 5k! When you finish there are tons of race volunteers there handing out water, bananas, and granola bars. There will also be volunteers waiting to give you a medal!

When you finish you can do a number of things. You can check your race time, get some food from the food trucks, dance, go to the different booths, shop at the GOTR merchandise tent, or you can just go straight home. I love doing this race with my friends and teammates!

Here are some of the things they had to say:

“I love how supportive everyone is!” -Reilley F.

“One of my favorite things is the bubble bus at the end of the race!” -Ella M.

“I really like the food trucks you can go to after you finish the race!” -Lana E.

“I like the people on the sidelines cheering you on!” -Erin S.

“My favorite part of the race is finishing!” -Sadie M.

These are just some of the great things about the race. I hope you enjoy it and have a good time!
